As the well worn cliché goes this was a game of two halves. The Sky Blues had an exceptional first half with everyone in the team playing superbly. It didn't take the Sky Blues long to get on the score sheet and the livewire Ciaran Moore scored two goals in quick succession. One was an easy tap in and the other a cool finish. Shane Heavron and Barry Murphy deserve praise for their contributions in the build up to the first two goals.
Not to be outdone by his strike partner, Shane Heavron then also notched two goals. The front two had a fantastic first half and combined instinctively time after time as they tormented the Coagh defence.
Oisín Moran rounded off the scoring in the first half with a well placed shot that the Coagh goalkeeper just couldn't reach.
The 'Wee Sky Blues' should have been six up at the break only for a cruel bobble that distracted Matthew Higgins as he attempted to convert a penalty. (This is Matthew's version of events. Others would say that it was the worst pen they have seen in a long time and that he will never take a penalty again!!)
The Sky Blues defence was excellent in the first half and restricted Coagh to only one or two half chances.
Then came the second half and what a different story this was. The least said the better as Coagh deservedly pulled three goals back. One an outstanding freekick from just outside the box.
The over-confident management team must take some of the blame making three early substitutions and forcing a change in formation on the young team. Alot of lessons were learned by everyone in the second half that will stand us all in good stead for the rest of the season.
