The 'Wee Sky Blues' got off to an excellent start in their first competitive game away to Coleraine. The Sky Blues returned with a point, but with a little bit of luck and some decent refereeing they could have been returning with all the spoils.
The 'Wee Sky Blues' got off to a flyer going 1 up in the first 10 minutes. Ciaran Moore who had an excellent all round game latched on to a clever through ball and finished cooly past the on-rushing Coleraine goal keeper. The Sky Blues had plenty of chances to extend their lead but were denied by some excellent goal keeping and the visitors woodwork.
Coleraine sneaked an equaliser, scoring from a corner. (We will have to work on our set plays as one of the smaller Coleraine players scored unmarked with a firm header.)
The Sky Blues went in at half time with a 2 - 1 lead after Shane Heavron scored directly from a corner. This was no surprise following a series of excellent corners that had the Coleraine defence in total panic.
Coleraine came into the game more in the second half and scored an excellent equaliser, a rasping drive from the left hand side that gave Jonnie Ritchie no chance.
As the game drew to a close the Sky Blues finished strongly and with a couple of minutes remaining Fintan Kerr was unlucky to have a cross shot cleared off the line.
The Sky Blues have to feel unlucky not to have collected all three points after hitting the bar once and the post twice.
It must be said that this was a fantastic start to the league campaign with great effort from everyone concerned. Special mention has to go to Tomás McLaughlin and Matthew Higgins who put in two excellent displays to give a really solid look to the Sky Blues defence.
The same level of performance will be expected next week when we take on Coagh United away from home again.
